Meet Josh Blake, the NextGen Professional of the Year Award winner from Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home, a family-owned and operated business serving the Waco community for 98 years. Josh is a licensed funeral director and is passionate about providing quality customer service to the families he serves.
Josh grew up in Waco and credits the city and its people for raising him. He left for a while to live in big cities like Los Angeles and Bangkok, but realized quickly that Waco was home. His love for the community shines through in his work, and he strives to make the funeral process as easy and comforting as possible for families during a difficult time. He helps families plan and carry out funerals, meeting with community organizations, vendors, and staff to ensure the funeral home runs smoothly.
Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home has served multiple generations of families in the Waco area, and they are known for their compassionate and rewarding service. Customers refer to them as a Waco Institution, and they are often praised for walking alongside families during their time of grief.
When Josh isn’t working, he enjoys spending time with his family and friends, supporting his nephews and niece in their interests, playing tennis and pickleball, traveling (he has been to 14 countries), and supporting Baylor sports. He possesses qualities like patience, organization, and a high EQ, which have helped him excel in his role. He says that “coffee gets him out of bed, and the opportunity and ability to work gets him through the door”.
Josh’s advice for those navigating their career path is to have an open mind, get to know people, and never burn bridges. He emphasizes the importance of being willing to learn and take on tasks, no matter how small they may seem.
