Meet Chris Allen

Thank you to our many local Waco area sponsors included in this guide.

Chris Allen, the new Superintendent of Midway ISD, has an impressive background in education spanning over three decades.
He started his journey as a teacher and coach in Birdville ISD and then went on to hold positions in several other districts, including as Superintendent of Marble Falls ISD for eight years. When asked about his inspiration for pursuing a career in education, Chris reminisced about his
seventh-grade teacher who encouraged him and instilled a sense of confidence in him. He felt called to education from that point on and has dedicated his life to being the best educator he can be.

What sets Midway ISD apart, according to Chris, is the high expectations from the community and the strong sense of character development for the students. The district places a high value on building strong academic skills and employability skills in students to prepare them for post-secondary success. The district also places a strong emphasis on recruiting and developing the best staff possible.

During his tenure as superintendent of Marble Falls ISD, Chris encountered several challenges, including a 100-year flood, the pandemic, and the death of a beloved and long-tenured school board member. Despite these challenges, Chris led the district with humility, identifying and empowering staff to collaborate with the community to provide a world-class education for all learners. He believes that having and exhibiting the best character at all levels of the District is the keystone that holds everything together.

When asked about the most pressing issues facing education today, Chris identified staying united in purpose and trust and inconsistent and unclear policy and messaging from state law and policymakers. He believes that the district must listen

well and with humility to approach issues through the lens of universal design. The challenge of accessibility must be embraced, and the district must remain flexible, fast learners who can maximize
opportunities by encouraging innovation and risk among staff and key leaders.

Through his work as Superintendent, Chris hopes to impart the message that education is a human endeavor, and in the midst of
data discussions and focus on achievement, we must always be people who love and are willing to be loved. Midway ISD should be discussed in the same breath as the highest achieving districts in the state and nation, he says.

To balance the demands of leading a school district, Chris maintains a strong walk with the Lord, is a fully present father and husband, and engages in regular exercise
that includes running. He also creates a culture of humility, so the district can have ears that hear, eyes that see, and hearts to discern the needs of those they serve.

Chris Allen’s passion for education and dedication to being the best educator he can be is evident in his career trajectory. His vision for Midway ISD is centered on a collaborative effort to provide a world-class education for all learners while maintaining a culture of humility and excellence.
